Business is better than ever at Doylestown's mom-and-pop-and-son burger shop, Basically Burgers, since the restaurant moved a block up town, owner Jay Goddard said today.
"We're doing so much better here - it's dumbfounding," Goddard said.
“We’re going through 70 more pounds of beef a week. We went through six dozen rolls a day over there. Now we’re averaging between eight and nine dozen rolls a day.”
Basically Burgers was previously located at 12 W. State St. The restaurant closed at the end of April because the owner of the building decided not to renew its lease. A Subway franchise is moving into the space.
The closure lasted much longer than owners Wes and Jay Goddard (father and son, respectively) planned - 55 days.
The new restaurant at 33 N. Main St. was previously an art gallery, and required major renovations to be turned into a restaurant. The Goddards also ran into trouble when they tried to connect to the public sewer system; the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority wanted to charge them for the connection.
"It was a big roller-coaster we went through," Jay Goddard said. "The borough support and community support was above and beyond - it totally helped us get through."
Goddard said Basically Burgers' customers have returned, and the restaurant has gained some new customers.
Basically Burgers is open seven days a week.
